About

Porch & Okra Consulting was founded by Lauren A. K. Darnell in 2023 to support organizations committed to creating inclusive and community-engaged workplaces. Rooted in Lauren’s deep heritage and values of collaboration, curiosity, and growth, Porch & Okra embodies both community and legacy. The name honors the memory of her grandmother peeling okra, a staple of Louisiana cuisine, and the porch—a space for reflection, connection, and restoration. These personal symbols are the foundation of our mission: to cultivate spaces where everyone can thrive.

Lauren’s professional journey—including her studies in socio-cultural anthropology and bodymind integration, as well as years advocating for others in the hospitality industry—inspired her to establish Porch & Okra after six years leading the Made in New Orleans Foundation. With expertise in strategic planning, community building, and professional development, Lauren supports work environments that prioritize humanity, humility, and providing resources for employees and leaders to thrive in leadership.
